If there are no available parking spaces, a customer leaves. Onaverage, customers arrive 2 per car. Each employee at the cashregister can handle a single customer and can handle an order in2.5 minutes. 80% of the arriving customers order a burger, and 60%of customers order fries. All customers wait in one line. Assumethat all customers place an order, they order either fries or aburger (or both) and that each customer places their orderindividually (even if they arrive with other customers). The fryertakes 5 minutes to process an order whereas the grill takes 10minutes to process an order.

  2. Identify the system bottleneck. What is the systemcapacity in customer-arrivals per hour
  3. If the demand at Sal’s is greater than or equal to the capacityof the bottleneck (which it is most of the time), what is theutilization of each resource? Please round to the nearest 1%.
  4. The UNC basketball team is playing nearby on Saturday, andSal’s is expecting a surge in customer arrivals. The owner expects20 cars per hour, with on average 2 customers per car. Whatresources would need to upgrade capacity in order to accommodatethis level of demand? How many units would need to be added to eachof the resources requiring upgraded capacity?
